Cinéphlia is the place to go if you are a film lover - it is, to our knowledge, the UK's only wholly independent specialist film store which actively stocks new books. It has two glorious bookshops - one in the heart of Notting Hill in West London and another just off Brick Lane in East London.
Cinéphlia East has a wide stock of books across the entire spectrum of cinema and the moving image - from film studies (history, theory, practice), film criticism and titles on the international film industry to studies of documentary, animation, cult film genres, national cinemas and artists' film & video. Cinéphlia East stocks directly from a diverse range of leading publishers - academic, trade, independent and specialist etc. - such as Wallflower Press, Faber & Faber, Focal Press, IB Tauris, Kamera Books, FAB Press, Auteur, Berg, Glittering Images and Phaidon, as well as many international university presses.
Cinéphilia West is a relaxed neighbourhood café/gallery/bookshop & screening space (as pictured above) on Westbourne Grove. Downstairs there is a well-stocked shop with publications across the full spectrum of film history/theory/practice and DVDs of quality international cinema. Cinéphilia West also screens excellent movies and you can even join the Cinéphilia Club for discounted access to special events. |
We really like the cool, funky design of both of the Cinéphilia stores. But what we were most impressed with was the friendliness of the owners and staff and their incredible knowledge on all things film. These places are more than just bookshops: they are places to hang out, meet friends, discuss films and enjoy books! |
