How should I format my manuscript?

We will help you with formatting your manuscript however there are a few things you might want to think about before you submit it.
First and foremost is to ensure that you have completely finished your manuscript before submitting it. Unless you're also taking out one of our editing services, you should be completely happy with the spelling, grammar, structure and style of your manuscript. For example, you should decide whether you include a dedication and/or acknowledgements page and whether you would like a table of contents. The reason why this is so important is that if you want to make changes to your manuscript in the middle of the book production process we might have to charge you for having to make these changes to the printer's proof. We will of course advise you of the prices for these charges in advance and try to avoid charging you unless it becomes necessary. On the other hand, you will appreciate that making such changes is time consuming and since our margins on our services are already tight we need to be compensated for additional time spent on your book. So, if you can ensure you're happy with your manuscript before submitting it to us that will make everyone happy!
In term of technical formats we can accept your manuscript in most PC-based software formats but it must exist as one single document. Please do not submit each chapter or each page separately.

Can I use footnotes or endnotes?

Footnotes can be troublesome when transferred to the publishing template. We would recommend you use endnotes. If you're using a huge index for your book we may need to charge a bit extra - we'll advise you about this from the outset and if you're not happy with the price we can give you a full refund before commencing work on your book. |

I would like to include images in my book. Is this possible?

You can email us images which you would like to include and let us know where they should go in your book. Please note if you would like these included as colour images you will need to opt for our Colour Publishing service. Images submitted should be at a minimum of 300 dpi to preserve the image quality when printed. Colour does add to the cost of printing and if you have a colour image on one side of a page with just mono (black-and-white) on the other, we have to charge for two colour pages because of the nature of the printing process. Colour images should be in CMYK colour rather than RGB.

It is very important that you do not use pictures, maps or images without the permission of whoever owns the copyright. You can’t copy from other books, newspapers or the internet without permission. In any case, images from the internet may look crisp and clear on a screen but their quality will invariably be too poor to print well. Please see the Questions & Answers section on Copyright. |

Can you help edit my book?

We won’t make any changes to your book unless you want us to. If you feel that your book would benefit from the help of a professional editor then let us know and we will have one of our editors proofread or edit your work, prior to it going for publication. We definitely recommend having your book edited if your budget allows as it very much helps to have a fresh pair of eyes look over your work. Please visit our Design & Editing pages for more information on this.
